Danger zone web application - The CHALLENGE Intranets and extranets provide a fast exchange of internal information, are valuable pools of knowledge and allow interaction among employees, departments and different locations. But at the same time they give access to a huge amount of sensitive personal and company information. If the intranet was totally isolated from the outside world, this wouldn’t be so much of a problem. But some parts of the intranet are intended to be accessible from the outside. This means that the intranet is open towards the Internet. An example are partner portals that contain confidential information - often divided into levels depending on status. Here product information or even information about planned future products may be available, information that is critical for the company.
With a supplier portal that coordinates orders and the just-in-time delivery of important parts, a manipulation results in particularly severe consequences. Should a portal like this be immobilized for several days, it could create considerable problems for the company.

The same is true for employee platforms that store employee information such as payment, but also customer and product data in a CRM system. Often employees from other locations can access the platform via VPN (Virtual Private Network) which also runs over an Internet connection – even if the name suggests something different.
